Christmas in MemphisWhile he's preparing for the regular season finale on Sunday, Kindal found a way to give back to his community this week by teaming up with former high school buddy Dewayne Robertson of the Denver Broncos by sponsoring Christmas meals to those less fortunate. Below are some excerpts from a couple of articles detailing the successful event. Click on the links to read the entire article.

Thanks to two of their own, the Orange Mound community served as Ground Zero Tuesday for hundreds in need of a brighter Christmas.

Freezing rain and low temperatures didn't put a damper on the NFL Christmas in The Mound, an outreach initiative sponsored by Christ Community Health Services and NFL players -- and former Melrose High football standouts -- Dewayne Robertson and Kindal Moorehead.

Inside the Orange Mound Community Center gymnasium, volunteers distributed toys, gifts and food to dozens who had received vouchers through area organizations, churches and schools.

"We asked (the organizations) to identify families in need, so we prepared to serve about 300 of those," said Georgia Oliver, Christ Community director of outreach services. "It was important to include as many as possible."

Although the giveaway was scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., people began lining up in the freezing rain as early as 8. MORE of the ARTICLE HERE.

Kindal Moorehead, Atlanta Falcons
ATLANTA -- Five touchdowns, 378 yards on offense, three interceptions, a defensive score and a tie for the NFC South lead.

Welcome home, Falcons.

The Birds improved to 2-0 at the Georgia Dome Sunday with an impressive 38-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Running back Michael Turner rushed for 104 yards and a career-high three touchdowns while rookie quarterback Matt Ryan found Roddy White on a 70-yard touchdown as the offense recovered from a rough outing in Week 2.

Defensive backs Erik ColemanBrent Grimes and Chris Houston each recorded an interception off second-year quarterback Tyler Thigpen, who was starting his first NFL game. Houston returned his for a touchdown late in the game. The defense opened the game by forcing five straight three-and-outs.

Turner's performance made a fitting encore after he introduced himself to the home crowd with a franchise record, 220 yards in a Week 1 win over Detroit. He took a different route to success this time, however, giving fans a taste of grit and persistence. READ MORE

Kindal logs a tackle and helps hold the Lions to 33 rushing yards

ATLANTA --  Michael Turner rushed for a franchise-record 220 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Falcons defeated the Detroit Lions 34-21 in the 2008 opener.

Atlanta (1-0) exploded out of the gate, scoring on the first three offensive possessions and racking up 216 yards of total offense in the opening period. Quarterback Matt Ryan's first pass attempt of the season -- and his career -- was a 62-yard scoring strike to Michael Jenkins. That was followed by 66- and 5-yard touchdown runs by Turner.

Turner rushed for 117 yards and both touchdowns the first quarter but that was just a sign of big things to come for aFalcons football team eager to show off a new form of intensity for first-year Head Coach Mike Smith.

“We’ve said from the very beginning that we are going to be a team that runs the football," Smith said.  "When you run the football, you can dictate to a defense. Prior to the draft, we spoke about being a physical football team and on both sides of the line of scrimmage. We pretty much set a statement in training camp that that’s what we wanted to do. We rushed for 100 yards in all four of our preseason games. We really did a nice job today. Michael Turner and Jerious (Norwood) both ran extremely well.” READ MORE
